Glen Johnson sends clear warning to Chelsea over Premier League title chances

Glen Johnson has sent a warning to his former club Chelsea after they fell behind Liverpool and Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title.

Chelsea began last weekend at the top of the Premier League table, one point above City and two ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s side.

However, the Blues succumbed to just their second top flight defeat of the season against West Ham on Saturday, with left-back Arthur Masuaku’s cross-come-shot somehow finding a way past Edouard Mendy to seal a 3-2 victory for the Hammers.

Liverpool went on to beat Wolves 1-0, thanks to a stoppage time winner from substitute Divock Origi, while City overcame Watford 3-1 at Vicarage Road.

The most recent results mean that City find themselves at the top of the table on 35 points from their opening 15 games, with Liverpool on 34 and Chelsea on 33.

Despite there only being three points separating the trio of sides, Johnson believes that Chelsea need to bounce back quickly otherwise they risk being left behind in the title race.

‘I don’t see either Liverpool or Manchester City dropping many points so it’s going to be a big couple of weeks for Chelsea,’ Johnson told Betting Odds.

‘If you’re going to win the league, then any game you score two goals in is a match that you must win.

‘Two goals should be good enough to win almost every football match, so to lose 3-2 is super disappointing for them.

‘They brought West Ham into the game when they should have been out of sight. That’s what happens at this level, if you don’t put the game to bed then the other team is good enough to come back at you.

‘They have one way of playing without [Romelu] Lukaku and then when he’s playing then it’s a totally different style and I think we saw that in the two halves against West Ham.’
