Glazers instruct Man Utd officials to accelerate Zinedine Zidane talks

Manchester United owners the Glazer family have reportedly told club officials to push through attempts to bring in Zinedine Zidane following the side’s harrowing 4-1 defeat to Watford.

They have also seemingly asked for an emergency board meeting to discuss the removal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager with the Norwegian under severe pressure.

According to the Sunday Times, a virtual meeting is scheduled for 7pm ‘with Solskjaer’s compensation terms on its agenda’, as the Glazers are showing their intent on bringing in Zidane by making an increased wage offer to the Frenchman.

United’s pursuit of Zidane last week was uncovered last week by the same publication. The former Real Madrid manager is reported to be interested in taking charge of the Old Trafford dugout, an opportunity that would allow him to work with Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane once more, but the 49-year-old was hoping to remain jobless until the summer.

Following the defeat at Vicarage Road, Solskjaer, 48, has now won just four games in 13 and the situation is not helped by the poor displays against Manchester City and Liverpool, where his side lost 2-0 and 5-0 respectively.

Solskjaer signed a new deal in August and so would receive a single-season compensation fee should he be sacked prematurely. “It was embarrassing to see Man United play like we did today,” David De Gea said after the defeat

“It’s not acceptable — the way we were playing and doing things. It’s easy to blame the manager or the staff but sometimes it’s the players. We need to show much more than we are doing.

“We are trying to give our best and fight for the team but for sure something is very wrong. You can see in the games — it’s very low level, very poor. Sorry to the fans, once again.”
