Glazers in ‘advanced’ talks to sell Man Utd as Sheikh Jassim leads Jim Ratcliffe

Man Utd's Old Trafford in focus

Manchester United’s takeover process is seemingly heading towards a pivotal moment as the Glazers are growing closer to selling the club to either Sheikh Jassim of Qatar or Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Both parties have submitted multiple bids while deadlines have come and gone, but the current owners appear to finally be on the same page.

Both Jassim and Ratcliffe have been edging closer towards the Glazers’ £6billion valuation of the Red Devils, £1bn for each of the family members, but many have grown frustrated with the process overseen by the Raine Group for its lack of progress at times.

If successful, it is expected that neither bidder will be at the helm in time for the opening game of the Premier League season on August 11 while head coach Erik ten Hag is reportedly infuriated at the lack of clarity during the transfer window, as he has been unable to bid for big-name targets such as Harry Kane and Declan Rice.

However, talks are now said to be at an ‘advanced stage’ with both Jassim and Ratcliffe preparing in case they are chosen to be the preferred bidder – though there is more optimism for the Qatari-backed bid currently as the INEOS chief was reportedly less confident that he would be successful.

Ten Hag infuriated

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag is said to be ‘infuriated’ with the lack of progress above him at Old Trafford.

It has been seven months since the Glazers first confirmed that they were considering their options, as now two transfer windows have been impacted by the delay.

With the Glazers unwilling to sanction big-money moves for the likes of Harry Kane or Declan Rice at the moment, Ten Hag is ‘infuriated’ according to The Mirror.

United were forced to look at loan deals in January for Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer, though the Dutch boss will hope that he will be able to spend in the coming months to boost his squad.

Jim Ratcliffe blow

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has attempted to be flexible in order to beat Sheikh Jassim’s Qatar-backed bid, by allowing the Glazers to remain at Old Trafford.

Talks have rumbled on as numerous bids have been made by both, but now the INEOS chief appears more pessimistic of his chances of being named as the preferred bidder.

Ratcliffe’s latest offer was for a controlling 60 per cent stake, while Jassim is looking to purchase the entirety of the club.

Glazers in advanced talks

The Glazer family could be close to deciding between either Sheikh Jassim or Sir Jim Ratcliffe as they are said to be in ‘advanced talks’ over a sale of the club.

Both parties have been told to get as much as they can done prior to being named preferred bidder as ‘significant legal steps’ are underway.

The process could take as long as two months, however, for a new owner to be in place after the Glazers do pick between the two parties.
