Glazers branded ‘greedy’ as Sheikh Jassim Man Utd takeover hint given
Mason Mount set for Man Utd move
Manchester United owners the Glazer family have been accused of ‘greed’ by a prominent Qatari journalist. Mohammed Alkaabi has hinted that Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al-Thani is closing in on a £6billion deal to buy the Premier League outfit and took aim at the Glazers for ‘disrupting’ the process.
The controversial siblings have been deciding which path to take after final offers from Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim and the British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe were submitted in June. The current owners have been working with the Raine Group, the bank overseeing the process, to decide on the best path.
Alkaabi, a Qatari journalist whose social media channels claim he works for Doha-based outlet Alkass, hinted that Sheikh Jassim is close to completing a deal with the Glazers, four months after the Qatari royal first registered his interest.
Tweeting United icon Rio Ferdinand – who has provided updates on the takeover process based on conversations with his contacts at Old Trafford – Alkaabi appeared to hint at an agreement. He said: “Are you ready my friend @rioferdy5?”

However, some fans have been unconvinced by the updates of Alkaabi, who tweets under the username @Qatari. Many supporters believe some of the news provided by the journalist has been premature.
Fan account @UtdFaithfuls responded: “Hope this fella is right this time because I’d swear he knows nothing about the takeover. Never got anything right for once. Just flexing his username and stat-padding Utd followers.”
Alkaabi responded by accusing the Glazers of ‘greed’ and claiming that the family are ‘disrupting’ the takeover process. It was first announced that the Glazers were seeking either a full takeover or partial investment in November 2022.

“I told you 1000 times, your friends, the Glazers, are the ones who manipulate the offer presented every time, with you and the great Manchester United fans,” Alkaabi said. “They only care about money, and this greed is the one that disrupts the deal over and over again.”
There is no evidence that the Glazers have prolonged the process for their own gain. It is widely expected that a decision over the preferred bidder will be made soon, with neither Sheikh Jassim nor Ratcliffe’s petrochemicals giant INEOS clear on who will be successful.
However, the lengthy nature of the takeover process will no doubt have an impact on United’s transfer business this summer. Erik ten Hag is in desperate need of new signings but with uncertainty over who will be in charge at Old Trafford in the long-term future, the Dutchman might be unclear on what budget he has.
