Giroud’s typical daily diet proves how Chelsea star, 34, is still flourishing

Olivier Giroud became the oldest player to score a goal in the knockout stages of the Champions League for Chelsea when he netted a spectacular overhead kick to earn the Blues a 1-0 win in the first leg of their last 16 tie against Atletico Madrid.

At 34 years of age, Giroud continues to score important goals and his return of six strikes in Europe so far is his best in a single campaign.

Speaking after his winner against Atletico, manager Thomas Tuchel paid tribute to the France international's fitness and desire, saying: "If you see him on a daily basis, you cannot be surprised.

"He is totally fit, his body is in shape and his physicality is on top level. He trains like a 20-year-old, like a 24-year-old. He is a guy who has a good mixture of serious and joy in training. He is always positive and it is a big factor for the group."

According to the Sun, Giroud follows a strict diet and it is key to his continued success at the highest level, with the striker steering clear of sugary and processed foods.

For breakfast, Giroud's options include pineapple and yoghurt, an egg white and ham omelette or bran flakes with bananas and blueberries.

His lunch options range from chicken salad to beans on brown toast and salmon and rice to a baked potato with tuna.

The forward also snacks regularly throughout the day on crumpets, yoghurts, dried fruit, bagels and even popcorn.

Then, for dinner, Giroud's options include chicken and green vegetables, fish and rice and a lean steak with steamed vegetables.

Giroud's current deal with Chelsea is due to expire at the end of the campaign and Tuchel has admitted it is "too soon" to make a decision about his future.
