Gianluigi Donnarumma left furious after Italy's 5-2 defeat to Germany
‘If you want to blame me, I’ll take it!’: Gianluigi Donnarumma reacts furiously after being quizzed over his mistake in Italy’s 5-2 thumping by Germany – as he admits ‘we were lacking everything tonight’

Gianluigi Donnarumma unleashed a furious tirade in his post-match interview following Italy’s 5-2 thrashing against Germany as the goalkeeper hit out at his team for ‘lacking everything’ in their Nations League humiliation.
An embarrassing evening in Monchengladbach saw the European champions dominated on foreign soil as Hansi Flick’s attack-minded Germany wrecked havoc, scoring five times before Italy responded with two late consolation goals.
Furious in defeat, 23-year-old Donnarumma criticised Italy’s performance as they conceded five goals for the first time since 1957.

‘We are angry. There are no excuses, we have to get back out there and prove this is not us. There are simply no excuses,’ Donnarumma fumed.
‘We were lacking everything tonight. There was also some fatigue after four games in 15 days at the end of the season, but we don’t want to seek alibis. Now we will look each other in the eye and analyse everything.
‘We’re really disappointed for the fans, for what they saw tonight. We had a few chances, but it’s not good enough. We’ll analyse everything and start again.
‘All of us made mistakes. I could’ve dealt with the situation better at 4-0 and kicked it away, but you learn from mistakes and grow. Now we just have to rest and come back much stronger than this.’

The Euro 2020 Player of the Tournament came in for criticism after his pass was easily intercepted and Chelsea’s Timo Werner scored to take his national goals tally to 53.
But Donnarumma was affronted when asked for an analysis of his mistake and even harped back to a moment in PSG’s last-16 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League.
‘When did it happen before? When I was fouled against Real Madrid? If we want to cause controversy over these things, then fine, I am here to talk for the team,’ he said.
‘If you want to blame me, fine, I’ll take the blame, I am the captain and I keep going with head held high.
‘I think you’re all trying to create something about these errors, fine.’
