Gerrard confirms Rangers transfer talks already underway to build on epic season
Rangers lifted the Scottish League title for the first time in a decade on Saturday afternoon, however, their manager Steven Gerrard is already casting eyes on the future.
Rangers smashed four past a hapless Aberdeen as they rounded out their season in style and confirmed themselves as invincibles, having avoided defeat all campaign.
Victory against the Dons also broke the 100 point barrier for Gerrard's side as they finished on a dominant 102 points.
However, Gerrard – who took the reigns in 2018 – has revealed that he has already had discussions with the board about transfer targets for the summer.
“I’ve had some really interesting meetings with the board and they’re with me, they’ll back me and we’ll go again and try and build on this success," the Liverpool legend told Sky Sports.
“This is a club where you can’t standstill. It’s about the future and what’s next. This has to be the launchpad.
“It’s my job to make little tweaks, find the little malfunctions that we need to iron out. We’re short in certain areas."
Gerrard will be looking to strengthen his squad as Rangers embark on a Champions League run for the first time in over a decade.
However, Rangers face tough competition to hold onto their current stars, with Ryan Kent and Ianis Hagi linked with moves away.
“It’s then about going back into the market and making sure your recruitment’s right. At times we’ve been too heavily reliant on Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe," Gerrard added.
