German FA’s stance on Jurgen Klopp with Joachim Low set to step down after Euros
The German Football Association (DFB) will ramp up its search for the next national team manager following the news Joachim Low will step down this summer.
Low will leave his post in July after the European Championships, one year before his contract was due to expire.
This means the DFB must accelerate their search for the 61-year-old's successor, though DFB president Fritz Keller insists they have the "necessary time" required to make a considered appointment.
"The fact that he informed us about his decision at an early stage is very decent," said Keller. "He gives us the DFB the necessary time, calmly and a sense of proportion to name his successor."
As reported by Mirror Football last month , Jurgen Klopp is the outstanding candidate to succeed Low in the eyes of the DFB.
While the Liverpool manager is contracted at Anfield until 2024, it is understood he would struggle to turn down the Germany job if it was offered to him.
Speaking last year, Klopp reaffirmed his dedication to Liverpool but hinted at his desire to be Germany manager one day.
Who should Germany appoint as their next manager? Have your say in the comments.
"Maybe in the future but now, no, because now I have no time," said Klopp as he responded to links with the Germany hot seat. "I also have a job – a pretty intense job by the way."
Other leading candidates for the role include Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick – who led the Bavarians to the treble last season – and former RB Leipzig manager Ralf Rangnick.
Germany Under-21 boss Stefan Kuntz is another option having led the youth side to the U21 Euros title in 2017.
As DFB chiefs step up their search for their next manager, Low will hope to end his 15-year tenure on a high at the Euros.
National team director Oliver Bierhoff said: "I know that Jogi's [Joachim's] full concentration and energy in the next weeks and months will only be used to prepare for the European Championship.
"We will continue to have a big common goal in the summer. "
