Georginio Wijnaldum explains touchline row with Holland manager during match
Georginio Wijnaldum has explained that his row with Netherlands manager Frank de Boer was “nothing bad”.
The Liverpool star could be seen in a heated discussion with De Boer after being substituted in the World Cup qualifying win over Latvia.
Wijnaldum was brought off with ten minutes to go as the Dutch won 2-0 thanks to goals from Steven Berguis and Luuk de Jong.
And while Wijnaldum, who is out of contract at Anfield this summer, admits he didn’t want to be taken off, he insists there are no hard feelings.
“My substitution? Yes I was a bit disappointed. But we shouldn’t make it bigger than it is,” Wijnaldum told NOS after the game.
“I wanted to remain on the pitch because I had the feeling that I could score another goal because Latvia were becoming more open in their defence.
“But me and the coach have already talked about it, it’s nothing bad. You have fun in the game and you don’t really want to be taken off.
“But you also have players on the bench, of course, and I also think this is a good time to put them in to keep the feeling across the team as good as possible.
“So on the one hand I was very disappointed, but on the other hand it is also good for the group process when other guys play too.”
Reports have suggested that Wijnaldum has agreed to join Barcelona in the summer on a pre-contract deal.
Speaking about his future earlier this month, Wijnaldum said: “At the moment, there is no news as it is right now. I would lie if I come with news.

“The only thing that I can say is that I’m really happy at the club – I’m really happy with the team, the staff, and really happy with the fans for who I play. That’s the only thing that I can say.
“It’s not that I am not happy and that I have to leave or something like that, but it’s not as easy as everyone thinks it is to make some decisions for your future because you have to think about everything.”
