Gary Neville bemoaned Manchester United’s first half display against Liverpool, claiming they were “pulled apart” by Jurgen Klopp’s side. It all started to crumble for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side after Naby Keita and Diogo Jota both scored within the first fifteen minutes.
And just as United started to create some chances and threaten Liverpool, Mohamed Salah scored two goals in seventeen minutes to completely take the contest away from the Red Devils.
United retreated to the Old Trafford changing rooms at half time to a cacophony of boos from the Red Devils’ faithful, who were furious at the way in which Klopp’s side overpowered them.
Liverpool showed absolutely no mercy to United, attacking the vacant spaces at will and appearing to take every single chance they created.
The half-time whistle came just as Salah fired home his brace, and United looked shell shocked as they headed into the interval.

And former United right-back and captain Neville, a pundit who has often same to the aid of Solskjaer, believed a hiding like this was a long time coming.
“I don’t think it’ll change after today, but this brings massive pressure, Martin,” said Neville.
“This is the first super-team they’ve played and they’re getting pulled apart like you wouldn’t believe.”
United came into the contest trailing Premier League leaders Chelsea by eight points, and West Ham United’s victory over Tottenham Hotspur meant the Reds dropped even further down.

David Moyes’ side leapfrogged Solskjaer’s men in the table, meaning the Red Devils are now in seventh place.
And after the half-time whistle, Neville elaborated on the shambolic first half showing he witnesses, stating it had been coming for Solskjaer’s side.
“Five [or] six weeks, it’s been coming, United haven’t come up against a [team like] City or Chelsea,” a very exasperated Neville said.
“The first time they do they’ve been torn to shreds. It’s shown them exactly where they’re at.”
United came into the contest on a wave of adrenaline after a spectacular match against Atalanta in the Champions League.

The Italians stormed into a two-goal lead in the first half; capitalising on some poor United defending to score through Mario Pasalic and Merih Demiral.
However, Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire, and Cristiano Ronaldo all found the net for United in the second period to complete a marvellous comeback.
Unfortunately, the relevance and spirit of that result will likely have been dissipated by the first half trouncing they suffered at the hands of Klopp’s men.
“Solskjaer has been subject to immense scrutiny and pressure after United’s recent form.
And with United floundering in seventh position just weeks after a possible title challenge was being talked about in the footballing world, the pressure is only going to get worse on Solskjaer”.
