Gary Neville has responded with a sarcastic reply to Cristiano Ronaldo after being savaged by the Manchester United star in the latest comments from his controversial interview. The Portuguese superstar has continued lashing out at former club figures and pundits, with Neville his latest target after the former team-mates’ bitter fallout in recent months, and the former United defender has now had his say.
Ronaldo appeared to take exception to Neville’s remarks shortly after he rejoined United in August 2021 that he should not have returned to Old Trafford and insisted that his time would be cut short. The Portuguese star since claimed that Neville uses his name to make himself more famous and spoke at length about their fallout.
“We’re not ever having dinner together,” Ronaldo told Piers Morgan’s Uncensored show. “To listen as ex-colleagues or team-mates criticise you, when they only see one point of view. It’s easy, it’s easy to criticise, I don’t know if you have a job in television that they must criticise to be more famous.
“I really don’t understand it. It’s hard when you see people who was in the dressing room with you criticising that way.”
It did not take Neville long to find a response, tweeting only three words to his 5.4million followers after hearing Ronaldo’s latest comments aimed in his direction. And the 45-year-old’s comments could well trigger another response from Ronaldo as he mocked the five-time Ballon d’or winner’s outburst.
The Sky Sports pundit tweeted from his official account: “Anyone for dinner?” early on Tuesday morning.
Neville further stirred the pot after retweeting a post containing video footage of Bruno Fernandes and Ronaldo meeting at the Portugal camp after flying out for the World Cup. In the video, Fernandes looked awkward as Ronaldo attempted to greet him with tensions rising at Old Trafford.

It is reported Ronaldo and his agent Jorge Mendes met with Bayern Munich officials a week prior to his interview being aired on Morgan’s channel, suggesting he had been plotting his escape from the club for some time. That will not come as a surprise to Neville or United fans after Ronaldo failed to find a new club this summer.
United officials met on Monday with head coach Erik ten Hag to discuss his punishment after his stinging attack on Ten Hag, the Glazers and former players associated with the club. The maximum fine allowed is two weeks, which could total £1 million for Ronaldo, who is the highest paid player at the club.
The club are also taking legal advice on the next steps regarding Ronaldo’s future, and it remains a possibility his contract – which has seven months left to run – could be mutually terminated after the World Cup.
