Gary Neville has questioned Dele Alli’s failure to prevent Thiago Silva from heading in a priceless opener for Chelsea in this afternoon’s fiercely-contested London derby. Spurs more than matched the Blues in the first-half but Nuno Espirito Santo’s failed to show up following the restart, allowing Chelsea to get their noses in front.
Strangely, Allí was the man tasked with marking danger man Thiago Silva and the England international failed to track his runner, who planted his header beyond Hugo Lloris.
Neville was less than impressed with the efforts of Alli to stop his marker from scoring.
He said during co-commentator: “Let’s have a look at that goal again, just watch him: Thiago Silva, he’s there just wandering late.
“I think it’s Dele Ali who hasn’t got a man to start with, he’s not close enough to him.
“When you’re not close enough to someone, there you go, they get the run on you and he gets up early.
“Dele’s static and just can’t get up in time.”
