Manchester United fans think Gary Neville was wrong to give Alejandro Garnacho the man of the match award in their 3-0 victory over Everton.

In the third minute, Garnacho scored one of the goals of the season to put Erik ten Hag's side on their way to a priceless win at Goodison Park. A deep, floated cross from Diogo Dalot fell into the Argentine's path, prompting him to shuffle backwards, leap into the air with his back to goal and unleash an inch-perfect overhead kick which sent the ball crashing into the top corner.

A stunned Neville described the youngster's moment of brilliance as 'the best overhead kick I have ever seen," even placing it above Wayne Rooney's iconic strike in the 2011 Manchester Derby. However, while all United fans could not believe how good his goal was, they believe he gave the man of the match award to the wrong person.

Garnacho's strike was the talking point of the contest, but they believe the biggest statement was made by 18-year-old prodigy Kobbie Mainoo. The United academy star was given his Premier League debut by Ten Hag, who was without midfield generals Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.

He was labelled "the standout player" by Neville when he was substituted for Sofyan Ambrabat. Before he came off, he also said: "It's the 18-year-old with the red shirt that looks the most experienced out there."

Yet, despite his praise, the now Sky Sports pundit gave the man of the match award to Garnacho. "Neville giving Garnacho MOTM when Mainoo dropped that display is insane," one fan wrote.

"Neville robbed me of the Mainoo MOM I’ll never forgive him," a second tweeted. A third said: "What’s Gary Neville on about? Garnacho defo had the best moment but he was not the best player on the pitch, not even close to our kid Mainoo."

"Think it's quite poor from Neville to give Garnacho MOTM while admitting that Mainoo was the best player on the pitch. Guy is 18 years old and should've been given MOTM," a particularly frustrated fourth United fan said.

Marcus Rashford also converted a second half penalty to double United's lead, before Anthony Martial poked home a third for the Red Devils.
