Gary Neville leads tributes to Aaron Ramsdale after last-ditch saves
‘That could win Arsenal the TITLE’: Gary Neville leads the tributes to Aaron Ramsdale who ‘singled-handedly kept Arsenal alive’ with two ‘RIDICULOUS’ saves in the dying embers of their 2-2 draw vs Liverpool
- Gary Neville has lauded Aaron Ramsdale for his clutch saves vs Liverpool
- Arsenal drew 2-2 with the Reds but Jurgen Klopp’s side could have won it late on
- Ramsdale proved the hero keeping out two close chances to halve the points
Gary Neville has lauded Aaron Ramsdale for his stunning saves in the dying embers of Arsenal’s thrilling 2-2 draw against Liverpool, suggesting the shot-stopper’s heroics could prove to be pivotal in the title race.
The draw will feel more like a loss for Mikel Arteta’s side, who took an early 2-0 lead in the match through Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus’ goals, with both taking advantage of defensive mistakes made by the Liverpool backline.
The Reds rallied to come back, with Mohamed Salah beating Ramsdale before the break, with Roberto Firmino equalising with a header late on.
With the energy of the home crowd on their backs, a bounding Liverpool side looked like they could nick all three points right at the death, but it was Ramsdale who would deny them a last-gasp winner, saving not one but two very close chances to halve the points.
His epic finger-tip save prevented a curling effort from Salah from finding the left corner of the goal and his cat-like reflexes then stopped Ibrahim Konate from tapping in from close range after a scramble inside the six-yard box.

Ramsdale proved pivotal keeping out two saves to help the Gunners hold out to a 2-2 draw
Neville spoke on Sky Sports suggeting that Ramsdale’s heroics ‘could win Arsenal the title.’
And his heroics could, as Neville suggested, prove pivotal for the London side as they look to hold off Manchester City in the title race, with Pep Guardiola’s side gaining ground on the Gunners with a 4-1 win against Southampton yesterday.
The Sky Pundit lead the plaudits for Ramsdale’s heroics during the match, saying: ‘That could win Arsenal the title.’
Arsenal now sit six points clear of City at the top of the standings, with eight games to play, while their chasers have a game in hand, and are set to welcome Arteta’s side to the Etihad at the end of April.
Neville wasn’t the only one who has suggested that Ramsdale’s last-gasp saves could prove pivotal for Arsenal in the title race with some taking to Twitter to similarly suggest that his ‘ridiculous’ saves could have kept Arsenal in this title race.
One wrote, ‘Aaron Ramsdale single-handedly kept Arsenal alive, despite the fact that Liverpool were in full flow at the second half and he managed to pull an all-time performance.’
Another added, ‘Could be two big saves come the end of the season.’ While one Twitter used called the saves ‘very crucial’ and another said ‘the saves from Ramsdale in the second half were ridiculous.’
The importance of that save in helping Arsenal come away with three points may come to be pivotal for Arsenal with one going as far to say: ‘If Arsenal go on to win the league this Ramsdale performance won it for them.’
The London side also have to play Chelsea at home and Newcastle at St James’s park in their run in, but considering the atmosphere inside Anfield today, Neville added after the match that this result is a good one, despite the Gunners throwing away their lead.
‘I think today is a really good point for them,’ he said. ‘Things happen out there in this stadium [Anfield] that just do not happen in any other stadium.
He kept Arsenal in the game at the end and his last-ditch saves could be pivotal this season
‘You’re never safe in the game here. You might be 2-0 up and sometimes if you’re 2-0 up in a title race you might get accused of bottling it.
‘But that’s not what Arsenal have done today. They’ve just been playing at Anfield and crazy things happen out there.
‘Liverpool from nowhere come into the game and in the overall title race, you expect that with the games to come, Newcastle away and City away, they will drop more points. And that will happen, but they have to hope that City will drop a couple of points as well.’
‘We all know how difficult it is to win here. It’s a mad place,’ He added.
