‘His partnership with Andy Gray was the soundtrack throughout my Premier League career and the best we’ve ever seen.
‘The last 10 years working with Martin has flown by and has been a joy. His delivery comes through hard work, commitment to the job and preparation like I’ve never seen.
‘You’ve delivered some of the greatest lines in commentary along the way although some of them have been painful for me personally.
‘I hope we can work together again in the future at some point. Thank you, you’re the best!’
Fellow Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher also paid tribute to Tyler, calling him ‘one of the all time legends’ in the commentary booth.
Taking to Twitter, the former Liverpool star wrote: ‘I listened to Martin Tyler commentate on Everton’s greatest ever game against Bayern Munich.
‘In 1985, he was commentating on my full debut and first goal for Liverpool as an 18yr old (sic) in 1997.
‘I then had the privilege to work alongside him for 10yrs, the highlight being an Origi last minute derby winner! Martin is one of the all time legends of the commentary box. Aguerooooo is one of the most iconic commentary lines in the history of the game!’
