Gary Neville finally admits Arsenal look like Prem champions in waiting

Gary Neville has finally admitted that Arsenal look like Premier League champions in waiting this season.

The Gunners currently sit seven points clear at the top of the table, having only dropped five points from their opening 16 matches of the campaign. However, despite their impressive start, many pundits have continued to doubt whether Arsenal have what it takes to the win the title or even finish in the top four.

Neville, though, has now endorsed Mikel Arteta's side after responding to a fan on Twitter who had questioned his criticism of Arsenal and Chelsea's transfer business in recent windows.

In response, the former Manchester United defender wrote: “Relax Arsenal fans, I'm coming to see the 2022/23 champions tonight. Congratulations.”

Arsenal host Newcastle United on Tuesday night, with a victory seeing them move 10 points clear of nearest challengers Manchester City.

Arteta's side have lost just once in the league this season and are in pole position to end their 19-year wait for a Premier League title as well as a return to the Champions League for the first time since 2016/17.

Neville's support for Arsenal comes two months after he claimed they would only finish in the top four this season. Back in November, he was asked by Jamie Carragher whether he thought the Gunners would end the season in the top four.

"I think they will," Neville responded on The Overlap. "Honestly, I think they will, how many games have Arsenal played 13 or 14? I honestly still think with what happened in the last few years the tough moments in the season are still to come. We know that. And that's the bit for me that has to be answered, I hope they answer it!"

Other pundits have also doubted Arsenal's title aspirations, even after they beat Brighton on Saturday to further extend their lead at the top of the table.

Following the weekend's results, Graeme Souness, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Jamie Redknapp all predicted Man City to pip Arsenal to the title come the end of the season.
