Gary Neville claims only one player can stop Mbappe ahead of England vs France
Gary Neville believes Kyle Walker is the only right-back who can stop Kylian Mbappe when England play France in the World Cup quarter-final on Saturday.
Mbappe has been in sublime form in Qatar and leads the way in the race for the Golden Boot with five goals in the tournament so far.
The 23-year-old scored twice to help fire France past Poland in the last 16 on Sunday, meanwhile England booked their place in the quarter final with a 3-0 win over Senegal.
And ahead of Saturday’s clash between England and France for a place in the World Cup semi final, Neville believes Walker is Gareth Southgate’s best option to keep Mbappe quiet.
‘I can’t think of another right-back in the world, I might be a little bit ignorant here, that I’d want to put up against him,’ Neville told ITV Sport.
‘That’s not to say Kyle will mark him out of the game. This is a sensational player, the new best player in the world. Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo coming to the end of their careers. Devastating, absolutely devastating.
‘Kyle will go closer to him, more pace than what the Polish defenders had but absolutely incredible those strikes.’
Meanwhile, former Manchester United captain Roy Keane believes England need to deny Mbappe space on the pitch.
‘I think it’s almost impossible to stop him, that’s why he’s the world’s best player,’ Keane said
‘They make it impossible to stop him, that’s not to say you can’t win the game of football.
‘England, look at their own attackers. You double up, you get bodies around him, if you give him that much space you will be in trouble.
‘But England will have enough to give them problems on their end.’
