Gary Neville accuses Man Utd fans of "turning" on him after Solskjaer support
Gary Neville has accused Manchester United fans of "turning" on him over his support of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Solskjaer, 48, is under mounting pressure following Sunday's humiliating 5-0 defeat to Liverpool, with reports on Monday suggesting he could be sacked before next weekend's trip to Tottenham.
Neville, who was working for Sky Sports as United collapsed to their worst ever home loss against their rivals, was reluctant to criticise his old team-mate after the match.
The former England right-back's unwavering support for Solskjaer was mocked by Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness, while fans on Twitter accused him of protecting his ex-colleague.
Addressing those who want Solskjaer sacked, Neville reminded fans of the Norwegian's heroics against Barcelona in 1999 and joked about a link between the fans' reaction and the Conservative government.
He tweeted: "If you would have said 22 years ago that United fans would be turning on me for supporting the guy who won “ Us “ the Champions League I would have said no way! But it’s 2021 folks! In the “ Johnson Era “ anything goes."
Neville's outburst didn't go down well with Twitter users, some of whom questioned the broadcaster's objectivity while working for Sky Sports.

One person replied: "The question is though; are you supporting him because he scored a goal 22 years ago or supporting him because you think he’s the right man for Manchester United? If it’s the former, you shouldn’t be covering Man Utd games for Sky."
Someone else said: "He was responsible for the club's finest hour and will forever be lauded and loved for it. However just because he scored an injury time winner in 1999, doesn't mean he's the right man to manage Man United in 2021."

While a third user added: "Wtf this has to do with the Prime Minister is beyond me. But one of the main responsibilities when you get paid to be the main pundit is to call a spade a spade. It’s not turning on anyone to give a fair, honest appraisal. It’s the job."
Earlier in the day Neville clashed with Arsenal fan and former Good Morning Britain hose Piers Morgan, who accused him of having "blinkers" on when talking about Solskjaer's future.
