Arsenal have been warned off a transfer of James Maddison by famous Leicester fan Gary Lineker, who has told the midfielder to snub interest in him from the Gunners. Mikel Arteta is desperate to sign a playmaker.
Lineker has told Maddison not to leave Leicester for Arsenal as interest in his services ramps up.
It comes as Arteta eyes a playmaker in the summer transfer window after the departure of Martin Odegaard.
The Norway international proved more than useful during his short stint on loan from Real Madrid.
And it has convinced the Gunners coach that a No.10 must be prioritsed with Odegaard out of bounds.
The 22-year-old has returned to Real Madrid where Carlo Ancelotti intends to utilise him more than Zinedine Zidane.
It has left Arsenal empty-handed but their search for a playmaker has continued with Maddison top of the list.
The Englishman has been reportedly eyeing a move away from the King Power Stadium after butting heads with Brendan Rodgers on occasion.
It has even been tipped that Maddison’s representatives are looking for a way out at the club while Arsenal are an interested party.
But Lineker has told the 24-year-old not to make the “backwards move” and join the Gunners.
He tweeted: “From my experience, taking a backward step never ends well. @Madders10”
Arsenal had targeted Emi Buendia only for the Argentine to join Aston Villa instead while several signings are mooted for the coming weeks.
Ben White is expected to be completed soon while Albert Sambi Lokonga is also on the way from Anderlecht.
Nuno Tavares has already arrived but Arteta is desperate for more signings as he looks to shape his own team.
