Gary Lineker jokingly told his Harry Kane rhyme should ‘get him suspended’

Gary Lineker has been told that his Harry Kane rhyme should get him suspended from his BBC duties – with the Match of the Day host jokingly in agreement.

The former England striker was watching Gareth Southgate's men take on Ukraine on Sunday evening and celebrated Kane's opening strike in his own unique way.

The 62-year-old took to Twitter and posted: "Yet another goal for Harry Kane. This time he scored against Ukraine. His scoring rate is simply insane. Just as it is at the Lane."

With a reply reading: "This should be the tweet that gets you suspended." Lineker then joked: "Totally agree."

Another follower said: "Is it international bad poetry day?"

Among his serious views, Lineker posts plenty of puns to his 8.9 million followers, with the latest effort bringing in thousands of likes in just an hour.

Lineker also went on to praise the Bukayo Saka's strike by writing: "Beautiful goal from Bukayo Saka. Such a wonderfully gifted footballer."

As well as Leicester's James Maddison's full debut with the words: "Such a talented and intelligent footballer."

Lineker was forced to take a week off from his Match of the Day duty earlier in the month in a row with his employers, returning for FA Cup coverage.

Opting for a more serious message on his TV return, the former Leicester and Barcelona striker said to Alan Shearer: "Alan, it's good to be here."

Having previously tweeted: "Ah the joys of being allowed to stick to football!"

Shearer then said: "It was a really difficult situation for everyone concerned and through no fault of their own some really great people in TV and radio were put in an impossible situation and that wasn’t fair, so it’s good to get back to some sort of normality and be talking about football again."
