Gareth Bale to ‘retire after Euro 2020’ and land £19million Real Madrid payout
Gareth Bale could call time on his playing career this summer despite Carlo Ancelotti's plans to keep the forward for the last season of his contract at Real Madrid.
The 31-year-old forward posted impressive numbers while on loan at Tottenham during the 2020/21 campaign, but failed to produce the sort of performances that made him a star in north London.
The Wales skipper has now turned his attentions to their Euro 2020 campaign under Rob Page, with the hope of repeating the semi-final they managed under Chris Coleman in 2016.
Although Bale has refused to detail his plans for the future until after the tournament is finished, Spanish media believe they have found out of his intentions.
Marca report that Bale will quit football should Real Madrid agree to payout the final year of the contract he agreed back in 2016, worth a reported £350,000-a-week after tax.
That agreement would see him paid a stunning £19million to walk away from the La Liga giants, despite Ancelotti mentioning the player positively on his return to the club from Everton.
The Italian said: “He has not played much in England. But he scored a lot of goals, he was very effective, especially in the final games when he played more regularly.
"I know Gareth well and if he has the motivation to try to play his best game he can have a great season, I have no doubt."

After which Bale said: “I’m not thinking about anything until after the Euros. I know Carlo Ancelotti, he’s a great manager, I get on with him really well, we had some great times in the past.”
Bale has a total of 105 goals across 251 games for Real, and grabbed 16 in 34 for Spurs this season.
During their time together he made a total of 92 appearances under the former Chelsea boss, scoring 39 goals and creating a further 31 across only 7367 minutes of football.
Bale has previously said of his intentions: “Obviously there’s been a lot of things written about whether I’m doing this and doing that.
“For me, the main thing is I don’t want to say anything that’s going to cause more chaos or more drama or cause a distraction. I just want to focus on the Euros.
"I don’t want to say anything that is going to cause any problems on what I am doing or what I am not doing. When the Euros finishes for us then I will sit down and decide what I want to do.”
