Gareth Bale Instagram comments perfectly explain why Jose Mourinho is furious
Comments on Gareth Bale's now infamous Instagram post explain why Jose Mourinho is so angry with the forward.
Before Spurs lost 5-4 to Everton in the FA Cup, Bale posted an image of himself in training alongside the caption: "Good session today".
The post generated such comments as: "You should be starting," and: "I don't understand why you can't get into our team. You should be destroying the Premier League."
Bale played no part in the Everton game, and his Instagram post contradicted Mourinho's comments immediately after the fixture.
"Well I think it's better for me to say. So we played against West Bromwich on the Sunday and he didn't play," explained Mourinho.
"On Monday I was a little bit surprised by him wanting to have a scan because he was not comfortable with some muscular area.
"So he didn't train on Monday and then on Tuesday he trained with the team but I was informed that his desire would be to work with the sports science for a couple of days to strengthen that area where he's not feeling comfortable.
"That's the reason why he's not here."
Mourinho was angry with the post as it made him look like the 'bad guy' in the scenario.
And the comments it attracted on Instagram, which question the 'real reason' Bale is being left out of the action at Tottenham, suggest Mourinho may have a point.
The Spurs boss spoke out about the post again on Friday, and confirmed there was indeed a "contradiction" between it and reality.
He said: "I have to admit that his post created a need of being addressed.
"There was a contradiction between the post and the reality. Since the beginning of the season, in relation to everything, I've tried to be very private and keep everything indoors but I felt that I needed to address the situation.
"Probably the post was not even his responsibility, but it was showing that training session was great and I'm ready which was totally wrong.
"So when questioned I had to give the reality of things. I repeat for the last time. He was not feeling good. He asked for a scan. He had a scan.
"The scan did not show an injury but his feelings were still there but as coaches, medical people we can never go against the player feelings.
"So he was not ready for the game. It's as simple as that. If he's ready for tomorrow he's selected for tomorrow."
