- The former Real Madrid forward celebrated wildly on the tee after the feat
- Known for his love of golf he was touted to play a round with Wrexham’s owners
Gareth Bale has once again impressed with his amazing golfing skills, after he posted a video of himself on Instagram hitting his first-ever hole-in-one at the Torrey Pines Golf Course in California.
The former Real Madrid forward, who notoriously ruffled feathers after posing with a flag that read ‘Wales, Golf, Marid. In that order’, is known for his love of the sport, and seems to have been playing a lot since he retired from football back in January.
Mail Sport reported earlier this month that Wrexham owner Rob McElhenney has been making several moves to try and coax the 33-year-old out of retirement, calling on him to ‘do the right thing’ and play back in his homeland with the newly promoted side.
The American had even invited Bale, who scored 40 goals in a 111 games for Wales, to play a round of golf with him and co-owner Ryan Reynolds, in an attempt to persuade the former Tottenham winger to join their club.
Bale has since told the Wrexham bosses that they cannot tempt him out of retirement, with his agent now suggesting he doesn’t want to play football anymore, and it seems he is instead investing more time into his golf swing, having struck his first ever ace on the third hole at Torrey Pines.

Posting a video on Instagram, the former Galactico, steps up to the tee and plays a practice swing, before addressing the ball on the downhill 195-yard (championship yardage) par three.
Stepping up to the shot you can hear him saying: ‘This is such a hard shot.’
The camera man also pre-empts fate saying: ‘Hole-in-one time, never had one, this is the hole to do it.’
But the former Tottenham striker makes it seem easy, striking his ball over the bunker that guards the front left of the sloping two-tiered green and appears to hole-out.
And seeing his achievement, the ex-footballer wheels away in celebration, running towards the camera and back up the elevated tee-box, jumping in excitement.
‘Oh my god he got it! This is a video for the ages! Wow,’ the cameraman says in excitement.
‘Gareth Bale, he doesn’t just do bicycle kicks,’ he adds.
It’s not the first time of late that the former Wales international has dazzled us with his golfing skills.
Back in February, Bale very nearly chipped in from a cart path at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, putting the ball within a couple of feet from the hole, in what was a seriously impressive piece of skill.
The Welshman’s impressive performance at the event even left 2023 Masters Champion and World No 1, Jon Rahm, staggered by his golfing ability.
‘I told Gareth you just can’t be so good at professional football and golf at the same time, it just doesn’t seem fair,’ Rahm told Marca.

But it appears the five-time Champions League winner will not be putting the boots back on and is instead going to stick to the golf course
‘You can’t be dedicated to one thing and still have this much talent for golf, it’s not fair in the slightest. But he’s looking to retire soon and he loves this sport and he loves golf.
‘He really wants to play a little bit more and hopefully in the future I’ll see him more times in the Pro-Am.’
To make his hole-in-one even sweeter, Torrey Pines is widely regarded as one of the most difficult courses on the PGA Tour, with the course hosting the US Open back in 2021 – where Rahm coincidentally won his maiden major championship.
The Spaniard is in action again later today as he bids to go back-to-back with major titles this year at the 2023 PGA Championship after he claimed the coveted Green Jacket at Augusta National back in April.
