Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli says the Gunners need to ‘keep the intensity up’ as they look to continue their impressive start to the season.
The Brazilian forward was speaking after Arsenal’s 3-0 Europa League victory at home over FK Bodo/Glimt, as Mikel Arteta’s men made it nine wins from ten in all competitions.
Martinelli was encouraged by his side’s start to the season but has urged his teammates to stay focused during the busy pre-World Cup period, with another tough opponent in the form of Liverpool visiting the Emirates today.
Gabriel Martinelli has called on Arsenal to keep up their good form against Liverpool
‘We’re playing well,’ Martinelli said. ‘I think we need to keep the intensity that we are putting in.
‘We need to only think about our team. We have a very good squad and our mentality is just to improve and nothing about them (Liverpool).
‘We’re going game by game with our plan. We’re trying to play our game and the other team doesn’t matter, we are just trying to win.
‘We are doing well, and we need to keep this mentality.’

Martinelli has been praised in public by today’s opposing manager Jurgen Klopp
This season has seen an upturn in form for the 21-year-old, starting all ten of Arsenal’s games and scoring three goals in the process. This form has led to widespread praise from players and managers alike, with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp a public admirer of the Brazilian.
‘I have seen that and it’s an honour. Someone like him, saying good things about me. I’m very happy, but I need to keep up the hard work and play well.’
Martinelli welcomed compatriot Gabriel Jesus to the Emirates during the off-season from Premier League champions Manchester City, with the forward becoming an instant favourite with the Gunners faithful.
After a summer of heavy investment and an encouraging preseason, the Gunners’ find themselves top of the Premier League and their Europa League group.
Martinelli believes not only himself, but the rest of the team can learn from Jesus’ experiences, as Mikel Arteta’s side look to continue their upward momentum.
Martinelli says he and his team-mates can learn a lot of things from forward Gabriel Jesus
‘I can learn a lot of things from him (Jesus) because he’s a very good guy. I think not just me but all the players are very happy with him on and off the pitch, he’s a great guy.
‘He always tries to give advice to us, from going behind or counter play, when he makes one movement, we do another one so he always tries to help us with this.
These details are so important.
‘We have a very good team. Me, Jesus, Odegaard, Fabio (Vieira) as well, the other players that are not starting are big players as well.
‘We have learnt from last year and we will try to reach our goals this season.’
Victory for Arsenal today would cement their position at the top of the Premier League for yet another week, whilst defeat for Liverpool would keep the Reds mid-table.
