Gabriel Martinelli celebrates before he’s even scored with fans ‘left in tears’

Gabriel Martinelli celebrated his goal against Aston Villa before he had even scored with Arsenal fans "left in tears".

The Brazilian winger came off the bench to score as the Gunners came from behind twice to secure a dramatic 4-2 victory at Villa Park on Saturday. Mikel Arteta's side scored twice in stoppage time to snatch all three points, with an Emiliano Martinez own goal followed by Martinelli's strike.

Martinez had gone forward for a late Villa corner in a bid to find an equaliser, leaving his goal unattended as Arsenal hit the hosts with a counter attack.

After being played through on goal by Fabio Vieira, Martinelli was left with an open net and raised his arms in celebration before rolling the ball in.

Arsenal fans loved his antics and took to social media to react to the goal, with one tweeting: "Gabriel Martinelli celebrating his goal before he scored brought tears in my eyes."

Another wrote: "The way Martinelli was celebrating before it went in LMFAO." A third fan added: "Need a good pic of Martinelli celebrating before he scored."

Replays of the goal also showed that Vieira had been celebrating on the halfway line after passing the ball through for Martinelli, before the Brazilian had even touched the ball.

Martinelli had been dropped to the bench for the match, with January signing Leandro Trossard making his first league start since joining Arsenal before being replaced by Martinelli in the 68th minute.

By scoring, Martinelli has now bagged eight goals in 23 Premier League appearances this season, one behind leading scorer Bukayo Saka, who had equalised for the visitors during the first half.

Arsenal's win ended a run of three league matches without victory and lifted them back to the top of the table, three points ahead of title rivals Manchester City.

However, their status as league leaders appears to be short lived after City took a first half lead away to Nottingham Forest later on Saturday.
