Gabriel Agbonlahor claims he currently has no interest in attending Aston Villa matches because they are not entertaining. The pundit doesn’t want Steven Gerrard sacked yet but has advised the Villa boss on how he can turn things around.
Agbonlahor spent the entirety of his professional career on the books at Villa. He made almost 400 appearances for the club, scoring 87 goals.
But at the moment, he does not want to watch his beloved club play. Agbonlahor has hit out at Gerrard’s tactics and has reiterated again how big a blow Jack Grealish’s departure was last year.
He said on talkSPORT: “I don’t want to go and watch Aston Villa play at the moment. I won’t go to Villa Park and watch them because it’s not entertaining.
“The tactics Gerrard’s trying to use at Aston Villa; get the ball out to Matty Cash and get crosses in. But the strikers we’ve got are not ones able to get in front of defenders and get headers in.
“It’s very predictable and boring to watch. The two No 10s that he played last game, they’re not performing.
“Jamie Carragher was spot on with [Philippe] Coutinho, he looks like a five-a-side player. I played with players that were the best players in training but, when it comes to a game when you open up the pitch, they can’t run, they can’t get past anyone.
“When I look at the team at Aston Villa at the moment, nobody can run and take a player on, you know, and as much as I don’t want to keep bringing up Jack Grealish but it’s showing in every game after every game that we’re missing someone like him. Someone who can get on the ball in brave areas and take someone on and make something happen.”
Agbonlahor can understand the Villa fans’ frustrations and admits it is worse than he thought. However, he believes Gerrard should be given more time to turn things around.

The 35-year-old would like to see Gerrard change formation and give a chance to youngster Cameron Archer. Agbonlahor added: “The Villa fans are fed up. I didn’t think it was as bad as it is but they want Gerrard out.
“I don’t think they should get rid of Steven Gerrard because he deserves a little bit more time but maybe he needs to change his tactics. Stop with the two No 8s coming inside so the full-backs provide the width.
“Try something different. Play wingers. When Leon Bailey’s fit, play him on the right. Watkins can do a job on the left. The young lad, Archer, a fans’ favourite, they want to see more out of him.
“Sometimes a young lad can save your job. Villa fans are fed up and results need to change otherwise it’s one way for Steven Gerrard and, when Villa fans turn, it’s very hard to get them back onside.”
