Gabby Agbonlahor wants Casemiro ‘arrested’ and disciplined for Man Utd red card

Gabby Agbonlahor called for Manchester United star Casemiro to be arrested for his red card offence against Crystal Palace.

The Brazilian midfielder, 30, was given his marching orders after putting both his hands round the neck of Palace's Will Hughes yesterday (February 4). A melee had broken out between the two sides and VAR intervened to advise referee Andre Marriner to send him off.

Pundit Agbonlahor didn't feel that was punishment enough, however, and argued further action needed to be taken. He said on talkSPORT: "Casemiro thought he was Brock Lesnar back in the UFC, the way he was strangling Will Hughes and he should be arrested for that.

"You know, there are kids watching that game later on Match of the Day or watching it somewhere and seeing Casemiro strangling an opponent.

“This isn’t ice hockey in America where they have a scrap during the game, this is football and we don’t want to see that. Casemiro needs to be disciplined by Manchester United."

A large amount of United fans disagreed with the decision to send Casemiro off and the club are considering an appeal, with alternative footage suggesting he grabbed Hughes by the shirt and not the neck.

Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag said post-match: "First of all, we have to deal with it and we will do, but it is not right. It shouldn't have happened.

"This was avoidable and because in this incident there have to be consequences and they are inconsistent and that is not right, that is not fair against us.

"We have to think about [appealing]. But be fair, we have seen when you're freezing [the footage], Casemiro is crossing the line. But a lot of other players crossed the line, including some Crystal Palace players. VAR didn’t intervene with them."
