Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Brighton and Hove Albion winger Kaoru Mitoma against completing a big-money transfer this summer amid strong links to Arsenal. The Japan international has taken the Premier League by storm this season and has unsurprisingly attracted blockbuster interest.

Brighton are enjoying a sensational spell under Roberto De Zerbi and sit seven points behind the top four with three games in hand.

Mitoma has played a crucial role in their success this season, which also includes an FA Cup semi-final date against Manchester United at Wembley Stadium in April.

And according to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are among his heavyweight suitors ahead of the summer transfer window after also luring Ben White and Leandro Trossard from the Amex Stadium.

But Agbonlahor has urged Mitoma against joining Arsenal this year or making any step up, for that matter.

He told Football Insider: “Mitoma has been excellent, obviously, for Brighton, but it’s so different when you go to a top club.

“We’ve seen it so many times with players who can’t do it at the higher level after making the step up.

“Just because you have a good season doesn’t mean you’re instantly going to succeed when you move for £60million or £70million.

“I think Mitoma should stay at Brighton another season and go to the next level because they’re a club on the up.”

Agbonlahor was already in Gunners supporters’ bad books after slamming Mikel Arteta’s players for celebrating like they’d ‘won the Champions League’ after beating Aston Villa in December 2022.

“The way they celebrated at the end of the game was like they’d won the Champions League, not qualified for it,” Agbonlahor bemoaned.

“I know it was a great result, but the scenes, the players, and we were right behind the fans, it was like they’d won the league, not beaten Aston Villa, a team that they should be beating.

“I think they did overdo the celebrations.”

If he wasn’t popular among the Arsenal fanbase before, he certainly hasn’t done himself any favours with his latest comments.
