Fulham defender arrested over alleged death threats towards partner
Fulham defender Issa Diop is in police custody in France after allegedly making death threats towards his partner.
The 26-year-old was arrested at the Pullman Hotel in Toulouse at around 8pm local time on Sunday evening, according to regional newspaper La Depeche.
Diop is suspected of repeatedly threatening his 29-year-old partner, while the pair are currently going through divorce proceedings.
It’s understood that the woman filed a complaint with French authorities last week but investigators had to wait to arrest Diop, as he has been living in London.
A Fulham spokesperson said in a statement: ‘We are aware of reports emanating from France this morning regarding one of our players, Issa Diop.
‘We are currently liaising with the player’s representatives to establish the facts.’
Fulham signed Diop in a £15 million deal from West Ham last summer.
The French defender quickly established himself as a regular for Marco Silva’s side last season, making 29 appearances in all competitions.
