Free agent ‘rejected’ by Man Utd has more goal involvements than entire squad
Man Utd boss Ten Hag insists he's 'said everything' on Sancho saga
Inter Milan forward Marcus Thuram may have made Manchester United eat humble pie after outperforming every single Red Devils attacker so far this season. Thuram headed to Italy as a free agent in the summer but had attracted plenty of interest from the Premier League including Erik ten Hag’s outfit.
Fabrizio Romano claimed that Thuram was an option for United as far back as January before becoming a free agent in the summer, as they considered a move for a player who would be available as a bargain. Instead, Wout Weghorst was preferred in January before the club opted for a more traditional number nine in Rasmus Hojlund in the summer.
But Thuram has two goals and six assists already in seven Serie A games per Transfermarkt, which is more than any member of the United squad. In total the Red Devils have scored just seven league goals, fewer than Thuram has played a hand in himself for Inter.
Bruno Fernandes is the only United player who has scored more than one league goal so far this season, with Casemiro, Marcus Rashford, Raphael Varane, Christian Eriksen and Hannibal Mejbri all notching once – while no Red Devil has managed to assist more than one goal.

United have struggled to create enough goals and Rashford especially has come in for criticism as he has so far failed to live up to last season’s high standards. While on the opposite flank, both Jadon Sancho and Antony have been unavailable for selection at times.
Antony took a leave of absence amid allegations of domestic abuse towards him, though he has since returned to the UK and to the squad and could face Galatasaray in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Sancho’s public falling out with Ten Hag has seen him banished from the first team, leaving Ten Hag with only youngster Facundo Pellistri as a recognised right-winger – while there have also been selection problems up front, where Thuram may have come in handy.
Hojlund was signed for £72million from Atalanta but he was unable to make the desired immediate impact after arriving with a minor injury that kept him out of the first few weeks, while Anthony Martial continues to have his own fitness issues that have ensured that Ten Hag cannot rely upon him for long periods of time.
Thuram, however, has begun life in Italy on fire and United must wish that they could have had a similar impact from one of their forwards. Having been turned away as a free agent by United, Thuram may well feel that he has proven the English giants wrong with his early-season form in Serie A.
