Olivier Giroud has backed Frank Lampard to be a success at Newcastle should the former Chelsea boss be offered the managerial role. Following Newcastle’s £305million takeover last week, speculation has grown over the future of Steve Bruce.
Co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi made their first appearance at Newcastle’s training ground on Monday and held lengthy talks with Bruce.
Reports have indicated that the conversations between Bruce and the new Newcastle owners were positive and amicable.
And the 60-year-old, who will manage his 1,000th game if he takes the dugout against Tottenham this weekend, has made it clear he wants to stay in charge.
“I want to continue, I’d like the chance to show the new owners what I can do, but you have to be realistic and they may well want a new manager to launch things for them,” he said.

“New owners normally want a new manager. I’ve been around long enough to understand that.
“That decision is not up to me. I accept that and I will accept what comes my way.”
But there is an indication that Newcastle are considering their options with Lampard and Lucien Favre among the favourites to take over.
Lampard has been out of work since losing his job as Chelsea boss back in January.

The 43-year-old has made it clear that he wants to return to management as soon as possible in the right project.
At Newcastle, he could help lead their revolution, backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).
Giroud, who left Chelsea in the summer to join AC Milan, enjoyed a strong working relationship with Lampard.
And the Frenchman has backed Lampard to be a success at Newcastle should the opportunity present itself.
“I talked to him a little bit last year,” Giroud told talkSPORT.
“I think he’s looking forward to a good challenge to come back as a manager. It’s a good option definitely for him.
“I think Newcastle is a big team in the Prem and it’s a good challenge for him to bounce back and show his quality.”
