The Blues halted a run of six defeats on the spin by beating the Cherries 3-1, but there was some bad news as Chilwell limped out of the match on 75 minutes.

Interim manager Frank Lampard could not guarantee how long the England international will be out for, but seeing that it was a hamstring problem puts the rest of the season in doubt.

Chelsea only have four games to play in the Premier League, so that could be it for this campaign for the 26-year-old.

‘[It was his] hamstring,’ said Lampard. ‘We don’t know [whether it is] serious.

‘With a hamstring at this stage of the season, you’d clearly be worried [that he may miss] the remaining games.’

Chilwell was out for three months earlier in the season with a hamstring problem, which kept him out of England’s World Cup campaign in Qatar.

He has largely been fit since the start of February, though, and has made 23 Premier League appearancces for Chelsea this season.

Injuries have plagued his career to date, with Chilwell making just seven league appearances last season due to a serious knee problem.

Chelsea climbed to 11th with the win over Bournemouth and will now look to at least finish a dreadful season on a positive note over the next four games.

They are not easy fixtures, though, with a visit from Nottingham Forest followed by trips tp both Manchester clubs and then Newcastle at Stamford Bridge on the final day of the season.
