AC Milan’s Franck Kessie has reportedly not signed a new contract with the club, even though the midfielder previously claimed he wanted to ‘stay at Milan for life’. Kessie has less than a year remaining on his current deal with the Italian giants meaning he will be free to negotiate with other clubs from January onwards.

The midfielder’s situation has seemingly alerted the attention of a number of European football’s biggest names.

According to Italian outlet Il Milanista, the 24-year-old is attracting interest from Premier League duo Manchester United and Liverpool, as well as Paris Saint-Germain.

United have been in the market for a defensive midfielder for some time now and Kessie could prove to be the perfect fit.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp’s side remain on the lookout for a defensive midfielder after they chose not to replace Georginio Wijnaldum in the summer transfer window.

Kessie’s refusal to sign a new deal has allegedly left Milan chiefs Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara stunned, especially given the player’s previous comments. Sport Witness say Kessie’s entourage are demanding wages of between €7-8million plus bonuses for their client.

But Milan chairman Paolo Scaroni’s recent comments suggest his club are not prepared to meet those demands.

“These are choices made above all by Maldini and Gazidis,”Scaroni told Radio 24, as relayed by Calciomercato.it.

“I am in favour of a relationship between the club and professionals but if they have requests that we cannot bear, we will make other decisions and wish them good luck.

Kessie’s latest contract issues come as a surprise given that in July, the midfielder expressed his desire to remain at the club ‘forever’.

“I’m proud to have chose Milan and it is not my intention to leave,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Indeed, I want to stay forever. I just want Milan. Sporting director Paolo Maldini knows my thoughts.

Milan head coach Stefano Piolo told the Italian media last month that he would like to see Kessie stay at the club beyond his current deal.

“I would like Kessie to sign,” he told the Italian media. “The negotiations go on between the club and his agent, and I don’t think it’s the time to worry.

“With Franck, I only talk about matters relating to the pitch and I always see him as positive and serene, there are no problems.”

The Ivory Coast international has been at Milan since 2017 and has helped the club turn their fortunes around, with the Italian giants back in the Champions League for the first time in eight years.

Milan are currently second in Serie A with 19 points, two behind leaders Napoli who are yet to drop a point in the league this season.
