Manchester United have been rocked by Bruno Fernandes refusing to sign a new deal until there is a guarantee of trophies at the club. It means that the Red Devils may have to splash the cash in the summer to build a squad capable of challenging for the biggest prizes.

Fernandes has been United’s most important player this year, almost single-handedly roping them into second in the Premier League.

In 28 league appearances, he has scored 16 times and made 10 assists – but the 26-year-old has a thirst for trophies.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is yet to win any silverware since taking over from Jose Mourinho in 2018 and has fallen at the last hurdle on three occasions after defeats in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, Europa League and Carabao Cup.

It comes at a time when United have been trying to tie Fernandes down to a new deal but have failed so far.

The Portugal international does not want to commit his future right away without the promise of silverware.

And Old Trafford officials could help Solskjaer by landing these four players to bolster the squad.

Jadon Sancho

United were desperate to sign the winger last summer but were rebuffed by Borussia Dortmund, but a bid could be revisited in the next transfer window.

The Bundesliga outfit are more open to selling the England international and could even lower their asking price of £109m.

Sancho was keen to sign for the Red Devils last year and, with Champions League football almost certainly in the bag, their negotiating position looks better already.

Pau Torres

Solskjaer is desperate to sign a centre-back to partner Harry Maguire at the back with Erikc Bailly and Victor Lindelof unreliable due to their fitness issues.

The 24-year-old is having a fine season at Villarreal and has been linked with a number of top teams but United are the latest to take an interest.

After turning away from Sevilla star Jules Kounde, Torres could be the answer with the Spanish club more open to negotiating than their La Liga rivals.

Andre Silva

Another target on Solskjaer’s wish list is a striker and there won’t be many more welcomed to the club than Andre Silva right now, who is a close pal of Fernandes.

The Portuguese forward has been in brilliant form in the Bundesliga for Eintracht Frankfurt, scoring 19 in 22 league matches.

A rough spell at AC Milan seems to have toughened him up while Serie A struggles are something Fernandes knows all about when he was at Sampdoria.

Jack Grealish

United will always be a destination for players who can dazzle and there are not many better than that in the Premier League than Jack Grealish.

Another summer target gone wrong, Solskjaer would still love to sign the Aston Villa captain – who is having a fine season.

After keeping him at the club for another season, Dean Smith could be more open to letting Grealish leave and achieving his dream of playing in the Champions League.
