Four Man Utd games Andre Onana could miss as goalkeeper named in Cameroon squad
Andre Onana could miss up to four Manchester United matches if Cameroon qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations following the goalkeeper’s U-turn on international retirement. The Red Devils No.1 made the shock decision to turn his back on his country following a disagreement with boss Rigobert Song at the World Cup in Qatar.
But following a change of heart, Onana has decided he’s ready to put difference to one side ahead of a crucial period for Cameroon.
While Namibia are currently top of Group C in AFCON qualifying, Cameroon can book their ticket to the Ivory Coast if they avoid defeat in their next match against Burundi.
Onana is back in the squad for the contest which will take place next month and if Cameroon prevail, he’ll be heading to the tournament in early 2024 much to the frustration of Erik ten Hag.
Cameroon boss Song said on Onana’s recall: “It all depended on him. He knew what he had to do. If he’s on the list, it’s because he did the right thing. He’s one of the best goalkeepers
“The door was always open. There was never a problem with Andre. Today, we are satisfied that he is reunited.”

AFCON runs from January 13, 2024 to February 11, 2024 which is midway through the current Premier League season.
It means Onana will miss matches against Tottenham (H), Wolves (A) and potentially West Ham (H) and Aston Villa (A) if Cameroon go the distance – providing they also avoid defeat next month against Burundi.
There is also a small two-week break in play during January which will soften the blow of losing Onana for United.
It will also help the likes of Liverpool, who will be fearful of their fortunes without key man Mohamed Salah.

Man Utd receive ‘new transfer approach’ for Mason Greenwood as talks begin[LATEST]
The tournament was initially due to take place this summer but it was delayed due to adverse weather conditions in Ivory Coast.
It’s been a tough start to life in United red for the former Inter Milan goalkeeper following his £47m transfer.
Firstly, he was lobbed from near the halfway line in United’s friendly against Lens at Old Trafford.
He was then lucky to escape punishment on the opening day when he clattered Wolves striker Sasa Kaladjzic in stoppage time without claiming the ball.
Thankfully for Onana, the officials missed the incident and did not award a penalty following a VAR check.
But he also endured a rough afternoon on Saturday as United fought back to beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 at Old Trafford.
He was subjected to viral memes after failing to stop Taiwo Awoniyi’s quick-fire opener before Forest raced into a shock 2-0 early lead.
United were able to wrestle back the game, however, to earn their second victory of the season.
