Manchester United are set to explore candidates other than Antonio Conte to take over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer if their poor form continues. The Red Devils have not won for four successive Premier League games, a hammer blow to their title aspirations with leaders Chelsea already eight points ahead of them.
Conte has been linked with replacing Solskjaer for much of the week following the humiliating defeat to Liverpool.
It was arguably the worst result of Solskjaer’s tenure at Old Trafford, with the Norwegian reportedly having been given three games to save his job.
But one man who now astonishingly looks unlikely to replace him is Conte, who has a reputation for achieving instant success.
According to the Daily Star, United are ‘losing interest’ in the Italian amid concerns over how much his appointment could cost.

Erik Ten Hag
Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag has impressed during his time in Amsterdam, winning two league and cup doubles since taking over in 2017.
Ten Hag has continued the Ajax tradition of progressive football and has carved out a reputation for developing players who have earned big money moves.
He also has an impressive Champions League record, having led Ajax to the semi-finals in 2019, while their start to this season’s European campaign has seen them score 11 goals and concede just once.
The Dutchman has twice been named coach of the year in the Netherlands and is one of the highest-rated bosses in Europe.

Zinedine Zidane
While he does not have the reputation of being a master tactician, Zinedine Zidane’s managerial achievements are arguably the most impressive of United’s non-Conte candidates.
The Frenchman led Real Madrid to three successive Champions League titles in his first spell at the Bernabeu, a remarkable feat.
With the club in a mess after his departure, he returned to steer them to the La Liga title, before leaving at the end of last season, showing he knows how to turn around a falling giant.
Brendan Rodgers
Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers continues to restore his reputation at the Foxes after a chastening end to his spell at Liverpool.
Rodgers had earnt a reputation as one of Britian’s brightest coaches before being sacked by the Reds.
He went on to win two league and cup doubles at Celtic before leading Leicester to their first FA Cup last season.
Rodgers has a reputation for playing progressive football and has recovered from a tough start to guide Leicester to four successive wins, including a 4-2 defeat of United.
Mauricio Pochettino
United have long flirted with the idea of appointing Mauricio Pochettino after the Argentine transformed Tottenham.
Known for a pressing style while using young players, Pochettino has maintained his standing as one of Europe’s highest rated coaches.
His time with Paris Saint-Germain is not going totally to plan, despite the club enjoying an unbeaten start to their Champions league campaign and being seven points clear at the top of Ligue 1.
United could tempt him back to the Premier League, which if they do so, would give him the rare distinction of managing both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
