Raheem Sterling is considering his options ahead of the January transfer market, admitting that he’s “open” to leaving Manchester City. The 26-year-old proved to be a hero for Gareth Southgate’s England side at Euro 2020 but that hasn’t continued at City this season.

He’s started just two Premier League matches this season following Jack Grealish’s arrival from Aston Villa.

And Sterling has now opened up on his future at the Etihad, admitting a move abroad would appeal to him.

“If there was the option to go somewhere else for more game time I would be open to it,” he said at FT’s Business of Sport US Summit.

“As I said football is the most important thing to me.

“Challenges that I have set myself from a young age and dreams as well.

“As an English player all I know is the Premier League and I’ve always thought, you know, maybe one day I’d love to play abroad.

“See how I would come up against that challenge.”

Express Sport takes a look at four clubs who could look at stealing Sterling away following his recent comments.

DON’T MISS

Newcastle

Now a move abroard appears to be what would appeal most to Sterling, but Newcastle’s project would appeal to anyone right now.

With billions behind them, the Magpies will be able to offer Sterling exactly what he wants in payment and he’ll instantly become the main star in a team tipped to soar up the table in the next few years.

At 26 years of age, Sterling still has his best years ahead of him and there could be an appeal in being a trendsetter at the Premier League’s sleeping giant.

Real Madrid

With Barcelona in a financial mess, Real Madrid are keen to put some space between them and their rivals.

Kylian Mbappe may be Los Blancos’ main target next summer but a move for Sterling could also be an option to transform Real’s aging frontline.

Gareth Bale has once again struggled with injuries, along with Eden Hazard while Karim Benzema turns 34 years of age in December.

Real have shown an interest in Sterling in the past and his recent comments could spark a renewal.

Arsenal

Again, not a team abroad but Sterling’s best option may well be to remain in the Premier League.

The Gunners were strongly linked with a move for Sterling in the summer but no move materialised.

Under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal are embarking on a new journey with a host of young, talented players joining recently.

Sterling could provide that experience and winning mentality to help Arsenal realise their full potential.

Liverpool

There are some Liverpool fans who still haven’t forgiven Sterling for leaving Anfield for title rivals City in 2015.

But it’s hard to argue that Sterling wouldn’t immediately improve Liverpool’s title chances now.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are in desperate need of bolstering their attacking options and Sterling would be the perfect addition.
