Former Manchester City defender blasts Pep Guardiola in scathing criticism
Former Manchester City defender Angelino has hit out at Pep Guardiola for not giving him a chance to impress during his spell at the Etihad.
The 24-year-old Spanish left-back initially joined City's academy all the way back in 2013, but was sent on a number of loan spells to gain experience.
After departing permanently to join PSV Eindhoven in 2018 he was signed again by City just a year later after they triggered a buy-back clause in his contract.
But Angelino made just 12 appearances in the following season before being sent on yet another loan to RB Leipzig, who he has now joined permanently.
Since then he has been an important part of the Bundesliga side's starting 11, and he recently opened up on his frustrations under Guardiola.
"Pep has killed me and my self-confidence," Angelino told reporters.
"After my move from Eindhoven back to City, he had already judged me on two pre-season games and then didn't give me a real chance again.
"So I was happy that I moved to Leipzig and that I am now an integral part of the club."
Angelino was also asked to compare Guardiola and highly-rated young Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann, who has been linked with the likes of Tottenham recently.
And he made it quite clear which of the two men he respected more.
"One of them gave me confidence and let me play. The other one just didn't," Angelino added.
"In Leipzig, I felt trust from day one. The club and the coach gave me an incredible push. I am now happy to be able to play consistently in Leipzig."
Angelino played the full 90 minutes in Leipzig's Champions League last-16 first leg 2-0 loss to Liverpool last week, and will be hoping he and his side can make an unlikely comeback in the return game at Anfield on March 10.
