Jonjo Shelvey has completed his move from Newcastle to Nottingham Forest and signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Premier League strugglers.
The England international said his goodbyes to the Magpies during their Carabao Cup meeting with Southampton on Tuesday before finalising his agreement with Forest.
Shelvey said: ‘I spoke to (Newcastle boss) Eddie Howe and he had such good words to say about Steve Cooper. I previously knew of him from my time at Liverpool, so I knew what a fantastic coach he was, but meeting him for the first time has been a breath of fresh air.

‘He’s told me what he expects and the high standards he sets, so I can hope I can come and help the team push to stay in the Premier League. I’ve been in this league a long time, I know what it takes to stay up and what it takes to get a good team to gel.’
Forest were also expecting to conclude a loan deal for Paris St Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas before the window closed.
Forest have moved for the former Liverpool player after finding themselves light in midfield due to the absence of Ryan Yates and Cheikhou Kouyate.
Shelvey’s contract at St James’ Park was due to expire at the end of the season, which has led Steve Cooper’s side to move in for the midfielder.
The 30-year-old has made just three Premier League appearances for the Magpies this year after falling down the pecking order at the Tyneside club.
