'For f**k sake' – Paul Scholes mocks two Man Utd stars after Brighton defeat
Paul Scholes has given some tactical advice to Manchester United stars Fred and Scott McTominay after mocking the pair’s ‘ridiculous’ displays in a 2-1 defeat to Brighton on Sunday.
Erik ten Hag made a losing start to life in the Premier League after Graham Potter’s side walked away with a deserved victory after first half goals from Pascal Gross.
United got back in the clash after the break thanks to an own goal from Alexis Mac Allister but they were unable to find an equaliser and an inquest has already started just 90 minutes into Ten Hag’s competitive tenure as boss.
While the club’s ownership have taken their fair amount of criticism for the defeat thanks to the club’s poor transfer window, Fred and McTominay have bore the brunt of the crticism on the playing side.
The duo were paired together in midfield in a partnership that has long been unpopular with suppoters.
McTominay was particularly guilty of underperforming and Scholes blasted the Scot yesterday, describing his performance as ‘absolutely ridiculous’.
But Scholes didn’t cool off overnight, with the former Oldham boss taking to Instagram to vent further on Monday morning.
The legendary midfielder criticised the pair’s body shape when receiving the ball and said they were unable to start attacks for the side’s ‘more talented players’ because they could only play backwards.
Writing on his Instagram story, Scholes said: ‘Thoughts for the week “Mdf’s [midfielders] it’s all about body shape when receiving the ball, too many times facing their own goal and can only play one way.
‘Get on the ‘half turn’ for f**k sake and bring your forward more talented players into the game….have a great week everyone.’
United face Brentford in north-west London in their next fixture and Ten Hag will be desperately hoping to have some fresh blood through the door before the side’s trip.
The club have had a £7.9m bid rejected for former West Ham ace Marko Marko Arnautovic.
Bologna want to keep the 33-year-old but he has handed in a transfer request in a bid to force through a move to Old Trafford.
