Football fans have been apologising to Samuel Eto'o as his World Cup predictions weren't as farfetched as first thought.

The Cameroon legend raised many eyebrows with his pre-tournament predictions, which had his nation going all the way and becoming the first African nation to lift the trophy. He also tipped England to lose to Qatar in the round of 16.

And while neither of those were anywhere near coming true, with Cameroon dumped out in the group stage and the Three Lions exiting after their quarter-final defeat to France, Eto'o did correctly call Morocco's miraculous run to the final four.

That's left many fans all saying the same thing. One tweeted: "We all owe Eto'o an apology. He's the only one who called Morocco going this far."

Another echoed: "Some of y’all owe Samuel Eto’o a partial apology." A third joked: "Maybe we shouldn't have all laughed at Eto'o for predicting Morocco in the final."

And a fourth wrote: "He predicted two out of four semi-finalists and Morocco’s run so far. Eto’o I owe you an apology I wasn’t really familiar with your game."

Others weren't buying Eto'o as an extraordinary psychic, though. One commented: "Hahahaha as if he actually smashed it with Morocco, still a horrific prediction overall."

"Rest of his predictions STUNK," added a second. One asked: "Fine… but are we gonna ignore every other wrong prediction on this tournament draw and stick to the 'Morocco vs France' only?"

"Qatar in the quarters uno," pointed out one. Another argued: "Something something about a broken clock being right twice a day."
