Footage shows footballer stretchered off from Bart Simpson’s ‘touch of death’

Resurfaced footage has shown a footballer being stretchered off after receiving a Bart Simpson-esque 'touch of death' from an opposition player.

The incident occurred during the La Liga meeting between Cadiz and Granada back in October 2020, with Cadiz's Ivan Alejo getting into a heated altercation with Roberto Soldado of Granada. Their disagreement escalated until Soldado gave Alejo a light nudge in the neck which caused him to dramatically drop to the floor.

Alejo was then seen being stretchered off with his arms crossed, much to the amusement of those fans who have seen the viral clip of the incident.

Fans have even compared Soldado's tame neck grab to Bart Simpson's famous 'touch of death' on his sister Lisa in an old episode of The Simpsons.

Bart demonstrates the move on his sister after learning it in karate class, scaring her by waving his hand in her face with his little finger and thumb outstretched to the side of his fist.

Should Roberto Soldado have been sent off for his neck grab on Ivan Alejo? Let us know in the comments section below.

Several fans have referenced the touch of death in the comments underneath the resurfaced footage, whilst one wrote: “The famous touch of death!!!”

Despite being stretchered off in dramatic fashion, Alejo was later able to return to the pitch and continue playing, as the match went on to end in a 1-1 draw.

It was Alejo who had scored Cadiz's goal earlier in the match, equalising after German Sanchez had given visitors Granada the lead during the first half.

That goal was the only one the former Spain under-19 international managed in the league during the 2020/21 season, a tally he has already eclipsed this campaign.

As for former Tottenham Hotspur striker Soldado, he unsurprisingly escaped punishment for the incident and was not even shown a yellow card for his neck grab on Alejo.

He has since left Granada, though, moving to fellow La Liga side Levante last summer, where he has scored five goals in all competitions during a season hampered by a lengthy injury lay off.
