Folarin Balogun offers transfer hint as Arsenal ace gives update on future

Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun has hinted he would be open to a summer transfer move following a successful loan spell last season. The 22-year-old is currently involved with the Gunners’ pre-season preparations but could see his future lie away from North London.

Balogun has rejoined the Premier League side after spending the previous season on loan at Ligue 1 side Stade Reims. The USMNT striker earned several plaudits while playing in France with 25 goal contributions in 39 games, finishing fourth in the French league’s top scorer list.

The loan move came after only managing a handful of appearances for Arsenal since joining the side as a youth in 2008. Since returning to Mikel Arteta’s side, Balogun has spoken out about his plans for next season, although the matter is out of his hands.

Speaking to 90min, Balogun said: “I was away for the year, so I’m just back, I’m obviously just focused on pre-season with the team. I’m really just focused here and of course, my agent and my family are dealing with this.”

Despite leaving the decision up to his agent, it’s clear that the Brooklyn-born striker is not wanting to spend another Premier League season on the bench. “I obviously went away and the aim of me going away was to prove I can play first-team football,” he said talking to CBS.

“Obviously, me coming back, I had a good season. I felt I was able to do that and play at that level so coming back, it’s not really much of a situation where I think I need to try extra hard to prove something.

“It’s a decision that’s not with me, it’s with the people higher up. I’m sure they’ll make that decision and whatever happens, I’m cool with it.”

Recent reports have linked the Arsenal youngster with a move to Serie A giants Inter Milan. According to The Athletic the Italian side are yet to make a bid, but an offer of £40 million is expected to be offered.

The move would see Balogun join one of his USMNT international teammates in the league. Christian Pulisic is Italy’s most recent signing, but opted for a move to Inter’s rivals AC Milan. The 24-year-old USMNT forward joined the side for £20 million after four years in the Premier League with Chelsea.
