Florentino Perez must be stopped – he’s only bothered about himself

If Florentino Perez is the saviour of football then God help us all.

That's the first thought that will have sprung into the minds of all those who listened to his inane ramblings when asked about the prospect of a European Super League.

Perez is being lined up to become the new chairman of the ESL and has been one of the driving forces behind the shameful proposal.

Perez, now 74, is also a former politician and is still the president of Real Madrid.

Real are one of 12 clubs, along with the likes of Barcelona, Manchester United, Liverpool and Inter Milan to have signed up to the breakaway league.

In a bizarre interview, Perez said the move had been made because young people are "no longer interested in football" because of "a lot of poor quality games".

"We are doing this to save football at this critical moment," he added, "If we continue with the Champions League there is less and less interest and then it's over.

"The new format which starts in 2024 is absurd. In 2024, we are all dead."

The game will be dead long before that mate if you and your band of brazen brothers who now form a Goliath of greed get your way and take football to a place it should never go.

Perez has decided to give us all a lesson in economics, despite the fact he has presided over a club now facing cupping debts of more than £200m.

This is the man who helped create that debt by signing players he couldn't afford, in a blithe attempt to maintain his club's image.

But now he has sensed a golden chance to get Real out of the black hole by signing them up to the billions of dollars of blood money a ESL will generate.

So here he is attempting to convince intelligent and good people that a new ESL will be good for the game and help it prosper, knowing full well that those same people can see through him like a glass window.

Shameless doesn't do this bloke justice and he must be stopped, otherwise the sport we all love will be ruined forever.
