Florentino Perez demanded change from the refereeing structure of LaLiga after his club’s star Vinicius Jnr was once again subjected to racist abuse.

The Brazilian forward insisted that he had been targeted with abuse from fans at the Mestalla, as Real fell to a 1-0 defeat to strugglers Valencia on Sunday.

Play was briefly stopped during the game after complaints of the racist chants targeting the 22-year-old, before resuming a few minutes later.

Tannoy announcers warned fans that the game would be suspended if they continued to behave in the same way.

The player was then sent off after appearing to strike Hugo Duro in a melee late in the game.

‘I want to announce that Real Madrid will not tolerate any more racist incidents with our players,’ Perez said, as Los Blancos’ basketball side won their 11th European title.

‘To do this, the refereeing structure must be changed so that the victim of the crime cannot be held responsible, as is happening now.

‘The society we live in does not deserve the incidents that have been repeated with our player. Sport is a meeting point, of values.’

Following the Valencia incident, Real Madrid confirmed they will pursue legal action, while condemning the chanting as a ‘hate crime’. The complaint has been filed to the State Attorney General’s Office.

Perez met with the player in a bid to show Vinicius that he has the club’s backing, with Los Blancos’ Twitter account tweeting an image of the two in conversation.

The Real Madrid website also published footage of the pair, with the caption: ‘The Real Madrid president had a meeting with Vinicius Junior expressing his support and affection, informing him of all the steps that are being taken in his defence and confirming that the club will go to any length in the face of such a disgusting hateful incident.’

In the immediate wake of the match on Sunday, Vinicius Jnr took to social media to share his feelings, claiming that LaLiga ‘belongs to the racists’.

‘It wasn’t the first time, not the second and not the third. Racism is normal in La Liga,’ he wrote. ‘The competition thinks it’s normal, so does the Federation and the opponents encourage it. I am soo sorry.’

Javier Tebas refuted the idea that LaLiga was a racist institution but Perez claimed that his player was being held responsible for what has happened to him

Vinicius took to social media after the game to declare ‘I will go to the end against racists’

‘The championship that once belonged to Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Cristiano and Messi, today belongs to the racists.

‘A beautiful nation, which welcomed me and I love, but which accepted to export the image to the world from a racist country.

‘Sorry for the Spaniards who do not agree, but today, in Brazil, Spain is known as a country of racists. And unfortunately with everything that happens on a weekly basis, I have no way to defend.

‘I agree. But I’m strong and will go to the end against the racists. Even though its far from here.’

Since the match in question, Real boss Carlo Ancelotti has also spoken out against the treatment of his player, while LaLiga president Javier Tebas refuted the idea that the Spanish top-flight is a racist institution.

When asked by reporters after the game what he wanted to discuss, Ancelotti replied: ‘[I want to talk] About what happened here.

‘I think that’s more important. More important than a defeat, don’t you? I’m calm, but what happened today shouldn’t happen.

‘For a stadium to shout “monkey” at a player and for a coach to think about taking him off for that… There’s something wrong with this league.’

It is not the first time that Vinicius Jr has been on the receiving end of racist attacks this year

Vinicius has been often targeted by opposition fans throughout his time in the Spanish capital.

Notably earlier this season, Atletico Madrid fans hung an effigy of the Brazilian off the side of a bridge, having called him a ‘monkey’ when the two rivals faced off.

The incident was ruled not to be a hate crime by a Spanish prosecutor given that they lasted ‘only a few seconds’.

Vinicius Jnr was also targeted with racist chants at games with Valladolid, Osasuna and Mallorca in January and February.
