Fixture list has Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs out for opening day revenge
The newly-released Premier League fixture list will see Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham all out for revenge in their opening game of the season.
All four teams will face clubs they suffered defeats to in their previous Premier League clashes. The respective managers will no doubt be examining where it all went wrong previously and looking to bounce back in order to get a swift start to the season.
Arsenal play Crystal Palace away from home on the Premier League’s opening day of the season, while Man United take on Brighton at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Tottenham will welcome Southampton as Chelsea get underway at Everton.
Mikel Arteta will be eager to make amends for the 3-0 defeat at Selhurst Park in April. The Gunners were thoroughly outplayed and outfought as Jean-Philippe Mateta, Jordan Ayew and Wilfried Zaha scored to crush their top-four ambitions.
United also suffered a devastating defeat late in the season as they travelled to the Amex in May only to be walloped 4-0. The battering was one of the lowest points in an already abysmal season and characterised the dreadful end to Ralf Rangnick’s tenure.
Who do you think will win their 'revenge fixture'? Let us know in the comments section.
Tottenham were on the receiving end of a dramatic comeback in February as the Saints battled from 2-1 down to win 3-2 away from home. Late goals from Mohamed Elyounoussi and Che Adams denied Antonio Conte any points – which could have potentially denied them a top-four finish.
Frank Lampard led Everton to a vital 1-0 win at Goodison Park against his former club Chelsea back in May. The Toffees crowd will be eager to play their part again in their first home match since avoiding relegation against Palace, which ended in a full-scale pitch invasion.
The opening fixture dates are as follows:
Crystal Palace vs Arsenal (Friday 5 August)
Tottenham vs Southampton (Saturday 6 August)
Everton vs Chelsea (Saturday 6 August)
Manchester United vs Brighton (Sunday 7 August)
