Feyenoord grabbed a slender lead in the first-leg of their Europa League quarter-final against Roma on Thursday night.

Midfielder Mats Wieffer fired the home side ahead with a volley from outside the box in the 53rd minute.

Roma had missed the chance to go ahead just before half-time after Wieffer was penalised for handball. Lorenzo Pellegrini thumped his spot kick against the outside of the post.

Forward Paulo Dybala limped off with what appeared to be another muscular injury in the 24th minute.
