Bruno Fernandes has been praised for being strong on Manchester United team-mate Alejandro Garnacho. The Red Devils star recently opened up on the youngster, insisting his attitude wasn’t right at the beginning of the campaign. And though some think it wasn’t his place to reveal that information, it appears his actions have now been recognised for being positive – instead of negative.
Manchester United beat Real Sociedad 1-0 in their Europa League clash on Thursday, with Garnacho scoring the only goal of the game.
However, after the game, Fernandes revealed the 18-year-old hadn’t impressed with his attitude earlier in the campaign.
“He [Garnacho] was good, but he knows we expect a lot from him,” the former Sporting Lisbon star said after the game.
“He’s still really young, he’s doing really well.
“At the beginning of the season, he was not at his best. On the tour, he did not have the best attitude that he should have.
“That’s why he hasn’t got his chances until now. He’s getting his chances now because he’s training better, he’s got a different attitude and he’s deserving his chances.

“Everyone is really happy for him and pleased with his goal.”
And Tony Cascarino has now insisted Fernandes was right to criticise Garnacho, insisting he’s helping to prevent another Morrison.
Morrison was a star during his days in the academy but lost his way, and is regarded as a major disappointment for Sir Alex Ferguson.
Cascarino, talking on talkSPORT, said: “If you’re a bit wild and you think you’re entitled to a place in the team, you might be good enough, but you have to be told.
“Ravel Morrison was one of the best youngsters I’ve ever seen, but he didn’t listen enough. He didn’t take things on board.

“I saw Ravel Morrison do things in games not many people can do, but he was a great Manchester United product who ended up losing his way.
“You can easily do that if you don’t listen… so was Fernandes right to call him out? Yeah!
“At that age you can’t get ahead of yourself. Kids need to learn.
“I think there’s no problem calling Garnacho out, because if he listens and he matures and he keeps doing what he can do, he’s going to be one hell of a player.
“He’s got the lot.”

And former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell has also praised Fernandes, insisting he didn’t overstep the mark with his honest comments.
“I actually think it was the right thing to say,” he said.
“If a young player’s attitude is not right… it’s very difficult for a young player to understand what it takes to be a first-team player, so when you do go on pre-season the first-team squad see who they are going to accept into the group.
“And if the attitude isn’t right, they’re not going to be accepted.
“I believe this young man is a very talented player, and he should have really been knocking on the door and being involved a lot earlier.

“So I think what Fernandes is saying right now is he’s got his attitude right and this is what happens when you have that attitude and when you do have focus – you get in the team and you produce performances like that.
“I don’t think Bruno is speaking out of turn here. He’s probably done it on the training pitch before and that’s what’s helped him get to where he is.
“Why not tell the truth? Your attitude now has actually got you, when it had hindered you at the start.
“Yes, his attitude might not have been right, but he’s rectified it because look at him now.”
