Fernandes’ reaction to late Pogba chance spotted in Man Utd draw at Liverpool

Bruno Fernandes’ surprising reaction to a late Paul Pogba chance was spotted in Manchester United’s draw against Liverpool.

The Red Devils could not find a way past Jurgen Klopp’s side, ending with a 0-0 draw and allowing Manchester City to close the gap to them.

While United are still top of the table, they could have gone four points clear with victory at Anfield.

And the best chance came to Pogba with seven minutes to go, picking up Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s cross for a right-footed drive.

But it was straight at Alisson, denying United their winning chance.

Pogba was left furious – but new footage from Sky Sports has emerged of Fernandes having a very different reaction to the crucial chance.

In the clip, the Frenchman can be seen slamming the ground furiously before holding his face to the ground.

But the play is moving on quickly as United have a corner kick to try and create another chance.

And Fernandes quickly rushes over to his midfield partner, dragging him to his feet so that they can get going again.

Pogba continues to have a frustrated look on his face – but it does not stop his team-mate's efforts.

The £89m midfielder has enjoyed some strong form at Old Trafford, securing the winner in the previous game against Burnley.

But club legend Roy Keane was left baffled that the Frenchman could not take that chance to win the game at Anfield.

He said on Sky Sports at full time: “Pogba, you can tell by his reaction. His first touch excellent. Oh my goodness. Has to score. Go across the goalkeeper. Anywhere but straight at him.

“It's easy when you're watching here but Pogba, because his first touch was so good he's given himself the opportunity to go across the goalkeeper.

“Huge moment in the season for United. Credit to the keeper he stood up, made himself big but that was the chance you'd be praying for before the game.”

While Fernandes was determined to help his team-mate, the club’s top scorer did have struggles of his own.

He was left furious at being substituted late on – but it also showed a previous Keane prediction was correct.
