Fernandes has made feelings clear on Ten Hag’s transfer plan
Man Utd's next six Premier League fixtures
Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has already made his feelings clear on Erik ten Hag’s plans to sign Harry Kane after naming the Tottenham striker as one of the best nine players in the Premier League two years ago. United have been tipped to prise Kane away from north London in the summer as Ten Hag looks to assemble a team that can fight for the Premier League trophy.
Kane became England’s all-time leading goalscorer last week after notching his 54th international goal in a Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy. And the blockbuster star is well on his way to breaking Alan Shearer’s record of 260 Premier League strikes after already finding the back of the net 204 times in the top-flight.
During a fans’ Q&A in the closing stages of the 2020/21 season, Fernandes was asked which non-Red Devils players should be in contention to win the Premier League player of the year award. And the ace namechecked Kane alongside Kevin De Bruyne, Mohamed Salah, Jack Grealish, Mason Mount, Ruben Dias, Raphinha, Ilkay Gundogan and Patrick Bamford.
“I think it’s difficult to choose one,” the Portugal international said. “For me, being the best player in the Premier League, you have to be the best from since we started to the end, and not coming and start playing in December or January and start doing well in that moment.

“The ones who were doing well before everyone forgets because those are doing better at this moment. I think to be the best player, you have to be consistent, try to be the best that you can for the longest time you can. Honestly, it’s difficult to choose one player to be the best.
“Of course, we all know the qualities that our rivals have. I think we can say this season, for me, as everyone knows Kevin De Bruyne is one of the best for me. If we go to the Liverpool squad, for example, I think Salah, if you say he’s playing well or not, he’s still scoring goals. Harry Kane is still doing really well in the Tottenham team, for example.”

Kane eventually missed out on the player of the season honour to Manchester City defender Dias. But the England striker has proven his top-flight credentials season after season and has notched 21 Premier League goals this time around.
United look set to secure a top four finish this season to cement their return to the Champions League. And following a precipitous upturn in fortunes under Ten Hag, the Red Devils may see Kane as the final piece of the jigsaw as they look to chase domestic and European success next season.
